The total number of job advertisements on Danish job board Jobindex in August 2020 is back at the same level as in August last year. But Jobindex added that there are some shifts, so the job market is not quite back to pre-crisis levels.

The coronavirus crisis has meant changes in the distribution of the number of job advertisements. The number of public job advertisements in August 2020 was 14% above the level in August 2019. On the other hand, private salaried positions are still 11% lower than in August last year, while private non-salaried positions are at the same level as in August last year.

Jobindex said the high level of public job advertisements is probably due to delayed job advertisements.

“We also saw this at the beginning of July, when there were a lot of job advertisements for school teachers and educators, which are usually announced in April and May,” the job board stated. “Some of these ads were postponed until June and July, but some of them may also have been postponed until after the summer holidays. If we look at the total number of public ads from March to August 2020, there are exactly as many as last year.”

Among job categories, Social and Health saw an increase of 16% while Education also increased 16%. For the period from March to August 2020, Education decreased 6%, while Social and Health decreased 5%.

Private, non-salaried positions are relatively unchanged compared to last year. Industry and Crafts decreased 4%, while Trade and Services has decreased 2%.

Among the private salaried positions, Information Technology fell by 5% while Engineering positions fell by 12%, Management positions by 13%, Office and Economic positions decreased by 14% and Sales and Communications positions fell by 14%.
